Dear Jane,
As you are laid to rest today, you presence will not be forgotten.
The last time we met was on our trip together from Memphis to the Ghana Baptist Missionary Reunion. You were able to welcome me as a friend, despite the difficult changes that had occured in my life since we were co-workers at the hospital in Ghana.
I remember the times of high stress in Nalerigu when we worked together to battle disease. The last menigitis epidemic in Ghana was one such time that had stretched the hospital beyond its limits and you were at the hub of the response, standing strong. During that time the President of Ghana, Jerry Rawlings, came to the hospital to assess our work and you were found standing in the Gap. In fact, I have a photo with both of us standing with the President and Minister of Health, explaining the situation to him.
You have a legacy with the world and it reads " For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me."
For most this is a dream but you actually did it.
You will not be forgotten.
I am filled with sadness, having lost a good friend.
Peace,
Vince Waite
