Jane Akin Fennell's Obituary
Jane Akin Fennell was called home to Heaven on January 2, 2022, from Methodist Hospice House, following a long stay in the hospital. She was instantly with her Savior and was reunited with her husband of 54 years, Charles Fennell; her parents, Robert “Bud” and Bessie Akin; and other family and friends who had gone on before.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Mark Alan) Vinson; her twin brother, Dwayne (Shirley) Akin; and a very special great-niece, Scarlett (Tommy and Leslie) Akin. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends that loved her deeply and will miss her greatly.
Jane was a graduate of Central High School and attended Memphis State University.
She made many friends in her long career in the transportation industry, while working at Bowman, Sartain, Jones Truck Line, and in the Thomas and Betts Transportation Department. Most recently, Jane could be found working in the Cheese Shop at Kroger, preparing cheese and serving up a smile to all her co-workers and customers. She also loved working early voting and on election days through the Shelby County Election Commission.
Jane was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church for nearly 40 years and was a member of the Agape Sunday School class. Every Sunday morning, Jane would take her place at the classroom door and greet her Agape sisters.
Spreading joy was the name of Jane’s game, and she gave new meaning to being a cheerful giver. Friends, family, and neighbors would often find a gift left at their door: pies, cookies, fudge, flowers, or a special “happy” she found that was just right for them. She loved working in her yard, keeping it beautiful, and enjoyed visiting with neighbors as they walked by, always giving them a smile and wave and an encouraging word.
Services for Jane will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Sunday, January 9, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and the funeral will be held Monday, January 10, at 10:00 a.m.
