James Russell Sexton, 65, of Cordova, TN, passed away on June 22, 2026.
It is with heartfelt remembrance that we honor the life of a devoted Husband, Father, grandfather, proud U.S. Navy veteran, and spirited Memphis Tigers fan who passed away, leaving behind a legacy of love, joy, and personality that radiated his enthusiasm for life.
A former Navy E-5, he served his country with honor and discipline, carrying the values of dedication and resilience with him throughout his life. His time in the service helped shape the man he became; strong-willed, hardworking, and deeply committed to those he loved. He carried that discipline throughout his taekwondo career as both a teacher and prodigious black belt member.
Russ shared a deep passion for his hometown team. As a longtime season pass holder, cheering on the Memphis Tigers was one of his greatest joys. Win or lose, he remained a loyal and enthusiastic fan, rarely missing an opportunity to support the team he loved.
Outside of his accomplishments and accolades, Russ was most proud of the family he built into the legacy that survives him today. With his lifelong love of 36 years, Teri, they had his greatest joy - his son, Tyler. Russ’s happiest days were spent taking his three grandchildren to the pool, running along the beach with them, and never missing a graduation, preschool art show, or theater performance. He was a man who believed in loyalty to family and the greatest joy in life - being a father.
Russ is survived by the legacy he left his wife, son and his beloved grandchildren: that life is best lived loudly loving those you hold dear, and every moment is worth spending by their side. He cherished every moment spent with them, and his love for them lives on in the memories of years spent as a loyal and extraordinary grandfather.
He is survived by his loving wife, Teri Sexton; son, Tyler Sexton (Chloe); his 3 adoring grandchildren, Mason, Charlotte, and Theodore; and brother, Bobby.
