James Edward Powell's Obituary
James Edward Powell, 80 of Sevierville, passed away February 26, 2019.He moved here from Memphis, TN after he retired, from 31 years with Sears in the catalog division, to expand his crafting opportunities. He was a member of First Baptist Church Sevierville and was very active in his church and community. He was known locally as the “Candy Man” from his home-made candy he would pass out around town and in the nursing homes. He was a part of many different events and groups in his church including: church security team, Triple L senior group, and Chuck Sexton’s Sunday School Class. He was a renowned crafter and gardener and served his country in the Army Reserves. James was a loving brother and husband of 52 years.He is preceded in death by his parents, L.H. and Ruth Powell.He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carolyn Powell; brothers, Lee Roy Powell and wife Janet, Vernon Powell and wife Brenda, and Larry Powell; brother-in-law, Michael Sappington and wife Becky; and loving neighbors, John and Ruth McCann.The family will receive friends 4-6PM Friday, March 1 in the West Chapel of Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville with service to follow at 6PM with Rev. Jerry Hyder officiating.He will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery, Memphis, TN.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “A Fitting Farewell for Everyone”.
