Preceeded in death by his beloved wife, Karen and parents, Mary (Porter) and Clyde M. Pinkerton. Survived by his daughter, Jennifer Pinkerton, son Jeffrey Pinkerton, granddaughter Kaylee, sister Susan (Pinkerton) Worthington, stepchildren Kristine Cooke, Michael Leachman, and Joseph Stovall, nieces and nephews and numerous loyal friends.
James (Jim) Pinkerton was born in Brunswick, GA. At 10 years old Jim announced his intent to become a Veterinarian. From then on he collected pets of all shapes and sizes. His family then moved to Alabama where he attended and graduated from Enterprise High School. He received his degree in Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 1969. Following his graduation he served as a veterinarian in the U.S. Air Force from 1970- 1972 with rank of Captain. He then joined Dr. Franklin's veterinary practice at the Raines Road Animal Hospital in 1971 and continued the practice as owner and operator following Dr. Franklin's retirement. Dr. Pinkerton continued to serve the Memphis community, providing quality, loving care for family pets until his death.
He was the President of The Sports Car Club of America from 1977 through 1986. He was also a member of the Memphis British Car Club, the Aristocrat Club and the Porsche Club. Jim was an avid fan of Formula 1 racing. He and his daughter attended the grand opening of the first Formula 1 track in the United States.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Heart Assoc., Dixie Memorial Pet Cemetery, ASPCA, or charity of your choosing.
