James Edward Pilgrim's Obituary
James (Jim) Edward Pilgrim, age 90, of Memphis/Oakland Passed away peacefully on April 23, 2016. He was a beloved member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Lakeland, Tennessee and he dearly loved his church family. He lived a full, happy and colorful life always with a great sense of humor. He grew up in the Binghampton neighborhood of Memphis and regularly attended their monthly reunions. A WWII veteran, he was wounded in combat in France and was awarded the Purple Heart. Upon leaving military service, he worked for MLG&W as an electrician for over 25 years and then pursued other ventures that included owning and operating the Tropic Hut on Cherry Road and Jim Pilgrim Realty Company. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemmie T. Pilgrim and Carrie Pilgrim/Wood; brother, Tommy Pilgrim; wife of 56 Years, Mildred Roe Pilgrim. Jim is survived by sons, James Edward Pilgrim, Jr. and Charles Roe Pilgrim; Daughter-in-law, Nancy Pilgrim, granddaughters, Katharine (Katie) Pilgrim and Ashley Neel, grandsons, James E. Pilgrim, III and Andrew Pilgrim and several great grandchildren; life-long, dear friend Dr. Jack Biggs. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Paul United Methodist Church, Lakeland, Tennessee A funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Wednesday, April 27 at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Poplar Avenue. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.“Honoring Life…..Behind the Stone Wall”
