James F Phifer's Obituary
James F Phifer- "Bubba" was born on May 7, 1941 in Memphis, Tennessee and passed away May 10, 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Martha Phifer and his high school sweetheart and loving wife, Margaret Edwards Phifer.
He is survived by his three children; Pam Sere (Steve), Tony Phifer (Bonnie) and Dana Phifer, five grandchildren; Lauren, Matt, Jake, Andrew & Ben and 3 great grandchildren; Holden, Lily and Logan and a sister Irma Caviness.
Bubba, a graduate of Tech High School worked at and retired from Memphis Hardwood Flooring where he made many lifelong friends that he stayed connected with after retiring. In addition to his time at Memphis Hardwood he and Margaret were co-owners of a beauty salon and liquor store since raising three kids didn't keep them busy enough!
Without a doubt his favorite hobby and pastime revolved around the Tennessee Walking Horses he rode and showed, again gaining lifelong friends. Many an evening was spent with his barn friends riding horses, cooking out and swapping tall tales. His weekends were spent at numerous horse shows near and far. His love of horses extended beyond his Tennessee Walkers and some of his fondest memories were trips with friends to Oaklawn Racing Track, the "Walking Horse Celebration" in Shelbyville, Tennessee and The Kentucky Derby.
He loved his family unconditionally, was unwaveringly loyal to his friends and spoiled the love of his life and was her constant companion and caretaker preceding her death. His stories were legendary and probably not nearly as embellished as some people thought- a life well lived; now reunited with family and friends who no doubt welcomed him with open arms at the heavenly gates.
Services will be at Memorial Park Memphis on Tuesday May 16th. Visitation will begin at 1pm with the funeral service immediately following at 2pm. The family requests any donations in his memory be made to The American Cancer Society.
