Although I did not have the pleasure of meeting Mr. Mounce in person, I was still blessed by him. My husband, Herbert M Mhoon II and Mr. Mounce worked together at the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. I told my husband I wanted extra credit for my Immigration Law class at the University of Memphis but I did not know who to reach out to. That is when my husband remembered Mr. Mounce was once a Border Patrol Agent. What a coincidence! When I reached out to Mr. Mounce and told him what I needed help with he did not hesitate to help me! He took some of his precious time and wrote me a long email to answer various questions I had for him as a Border Patrol Agent and for that I will be forever grateful.

Jimmy was a good man, always the gentleman and a true professional in every way. He had a kind heart and would help you in any way he could. I especially admired his dedication to duty and his love for our country. He loved his wife Vicky and family meant so much to him. I am privileged to have known him and to have called him my friend. He will be missed by many.

I met Jimmy in 1996. Over the years he helped me many times with everything from moving people, tracking people, or even finding some of the best BBQ joints in the world. My memories of Jimmy are extensive but my favorite had to do with me scheduling some training that he was attending as well, so we worked out sharing a car. We had talked about keeping a low profile many times in the past. In typical Jimmy fashion, he felt the need to put my name on a placard, which was attached to a full sized target – used target. Clearly, he felt that low profile was not called for that day! Although he was a lot of fun, he was also a class act, the definition of a southern gentleman, and was always there when you needed a hand. The world is a little less bright today, and definitely a little less safe today, with him not in it.

I was saddened to hear of Jim’s passing. I had the pleasure to know and work with Jim a number of times through the years in the INS and ICE. He was a great officer and a good and earnest man. He will be truly missed. My deepest condolences to the Mounce family.

While I was not close to Jimmy, East was a small school and Jimmy always seemed to me “a gentleman with a purpose.” He certainly lived up to that assessment. What a career. We certainly needed all his efforts down here after the hurricanes. I remember his self-deprecating sense of humor and good nature. I am so sorry for your loss. I will pray for you all as the LORD brings you to mind.

I was sad to learn of Jim’s passing. He was an outstanding officer who took great pride in his service to our nation.My thoughts and prayers are with his family. He will be missed by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
