James Albert Martin's Obituary
James Albert Martin, 79, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, TN. He was born on October 30, 1943 in Memphis, TN to Albert Eugene Martin and Myrtle Turner Martin. He was the husband of Susan Akers Martin and the devoted father of Turner Scott Martin, James Brennon Martin, Carrigan Bryce Martin, and Conor Jameson Martin.
James grew up in Scotts Hill, Tennessee with his sister, Jane. He graduated from Scotts Hill High School in 1961 and went on to earn his degree in pharmacy from the University of Tennessee College of Pharmacy. He had a successful 45 year career as a pharmacist at Walgreens, where he was respected and admired by his colleagues and customers alike.
Throughout his life, James was a dedicated husband and father. He and Susan were married for 41 years and his love for her was evident to all who knew him. James was a proud father to his boys and was always there to support them in all their endeavors.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Albert and Myrtle Martin, his sister, Jane Willis, and his son, Turner Martin.
James is survived by his wife, Susan Martin, and his sons, Brennon (Kamille), Carrigan (Rachel), and Conor Martin (Katelyn), his father-in-law, Howard T. Akers, and his nephew, Gary Willis (Connie). James also had six beloved grandchildren, Maddox, Gibson, McGuire, Mila, Garner, and Rome, who brought him immense joy and pride. He was a devoted grandfather who loved spending time with his grandchildren.
James will be remembered for his kind heart, his sense of humor, and his unwavering love for his family and the Lord. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held for family and friends at Memorial Park on Thursday May 11, 2023 at 12:00 PM, followed by a service May 11 at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
