James Lamar Lewis, Jr.
October 23, 1946 – January 9, 2023
James Lamar Lewis, Jr. “Jimbo” passed away on January 9, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Jimbo was born in Mobile, Alabama on October 23, 1946 to Nelle Phillips Lewis and James Lamar Lewis, Sr. He is survived by his three children Benjamin Crawford Lewis, Clifton Phillips Lewis, and Katherine Elizabeth Lewis, also sister-in-law Charlotte Davis Moulds (Carl Ray) and brother-in-law Gary Crawford (Linda). He is proceeded in death by his parents and wife Betty Crawford Lewis whom he was married to for 50 years, brother Donald Phillips Lewis and his wife Lillis Lott Lewis, and brother-in-law Earnest Davis.
Jimbo was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama where he graduated from Murphy High School in 1964. He went to the University of Alabama and graduated with a business degree in 1968. He returned to Mobile to work at Sears where he met the love of his life Betty. He was transferred to Columbus, Mississippi for a year, and eventually to Memphis, Tennessee in 1980 where he worked in the Sears historic Crosstown building. He retired from Sears in 2010.
Jimbo and Betty raised their family in Germantown, Tennessee where they were members of the Germantown United Methodist Church. Jimbo was an avid fan of the Memphis Grizzlies and Memphis Tigers. He had a quick clever wit and you never knew what was coming next. Jimbo was so loved by his family and friends and will be deeply missed.
A graveside service will be held at Rumbley Cemetery in Peterman, Alabama at a later date.
