James Earl Jordan's Obituary
Chickamauga, GA. James Earl Jordan, 95, of Chickamauga, GA passed away peacefully at his home on January 2, 2024, with his family by his side.
James was born July 25, 1928, in Montgomery County, MS. He was the son of Wilfred and Mattie Lee (Shipp) Jordan. The family moved to Memphis when James was a child and he spent most of his adult life there. He graduated from Southside High School in 1946. He enlisted in the US Air Force in 1950 where he served four years working on the early versions of radar and guided missiles. After leaving the Air Force, he married Betty Ann Harwell on January 28, 1955. James was a member of the Memphis Cotton Exchange working for McFadden Cotton and Texas Transport and Terminal. He later served as treasurer and president of the Memphis Electric League. He eventually started his own industrial lighting company LDA Sales representing many lighting manufacturers.
In Memphis James was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church serving as a deacon and usher. Moving to Chickamauga in 2011, he became a member of Chickamauga First Baptist Church where he was also a deacon and an unofficial “greeter”.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Betty, of 63 years, his brother, Jack Jordan and his sister, Aleene Schrieber.
He is survived by his sister, Faye Beasley, his four children, Jimmy Jordan, Jan Colvard (Clark), Joel Jordan and John Jordan (Lynn), his grandchildren Jacob, Nick and Jennifer Jordan, Mason Jordan, Casey Smith and Molly Harding and his great-grandchildren, Sam, Job, Jordan and Clark.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, January 8 at 12:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home with a graveside service to follow at 1:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
