James Christopher Hughes' Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of James Christopher Hughes, 55 of Memphis, TN on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was always happy and lived his life to the fullest. His career began with Consolidated Freightways and Turner Dairy where he mastered the mechanics of large engines and refrigeration. The Southern Towing Company was his next endeavor. He was an Assistant Port Engineer and loved working on the water and traveling to many different parts of the country making lifelong friends. His proudest moment was when he became the owner of Thomas Meat and Seafood Market in Collierville, TN. This allowed him to merge his love of people with his passion for cooking. Between catering and barbeque competitions, his dreams were fulfilled. After 6 years, Chris transitioned back to the machine industry with Taylor Sudden Service as the Assistant Branch Manager for the West Memphis location. Chris loved his job and took pride in growing the company.
Hunting and fishing were his hobbies. Chris enjoyed being anywhere near water and wildlife surrounded by friends and family.
As a proud member of Covenant United Methodist Church, he served on the Board of Trustees, volunteered his time with the youth and Friends in Hope Sunday School Class.
Chris is survived by his loving wife Jennifer Blassingame Hughes and his children Nicholas Hughes, Natalie Gaona (Cris) and Mary Attison Hughes along with many other family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Barbara Sue Hughes.
He will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 8, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN 38119. Interment will be in Forest Hill South Cemetery.
