James Hatter's Obituary
JAMES MELVIN HATTER, 70, passed peacefully at home in his sleep the morning of May 24, 2014. Jim was born June 6, 1943 in Princeton, IN. He grew up in 13 different cities before reaching age 20. Jim attended Taylor University, Boston University, and then joined the TWA Pilot Training Program where he advanced to TWA Captain. Jim trained the King of Saudi Arabia’s private pilots before retiring from his TWA career. He joined Federal Express in Connecticut, moved to Memphis in 1994 as a Sr. Manager, and retired from his second career in 2003. Jim was a supporter of the Arts and sat on the Board of the Germantown Arts Alliance for several years. He was a founding volunteer of TN Shakespeare Company, and supporter of the Methodist LeBonheur Children’s Hospital and Hospice Residence Artwork procurement projects. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Melvin J Hatter and his mother, Dorothea Krebs Hatter. Jim is survived by his wife, Margaret Boaz, brother Thomas and Belinda Hatter of Memphis, TN, brother David and Denise Hatter of Snellville, GA, brother-in-law Richard and Kim Boaz of Beaverton, OR, mother-in-law Mary Boaz of Germantown, and nieces and nephews Alicia, Michael, Kevin, and Nicholas Hatter, Amanda Poinier, Conner and Caden Boaz. The funeral is at St. George’s Episcopal Church, 2425 S. Germantown Rd., Germantown, TN on Wednesday May 28. Visitation 2-4 p.m. in Library and Service at 4 p.m. in the Sanctuary. Any memorials are requested to go to one of the arts organizations Jim supported.
