James W. Hankins' Obituary
James W Hankins, 92, born April 30, 1924 in Sulligent, Alabama, died September 17,2016 in Memphis, where he lived for 78 years. He was preceded by parents, Roy Hankins and Mildred Stokes Hankins and brother Roy Hankins. Jim is survived by his wife of 70 years, Vera White Hankins; children, Mike Hankins (Joyce), Linda Mynatt (Randy), and Brenda Stephenson (Rodney); grandchildren, Michelle Nix , Andy Mynatt, Rob Mynatt, Heather Hankins, Melissa M. Bryant, Jordan Simmons and Rachel Simmons; five great grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren. Jim was the past owner of Acoustics and Specialties,Inc. of Memphis. He was involved and served as an officer in numerous industry associations both locally and nationally. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII aboard the USS Bradford. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Memphis for 55 years. Jim and Vera enjoyed many travels with friends all over the country. He loved the mountains of East Tennessee to the shores of Destin, Florida. He was devoted to his wife and family. He took great joy in attending the various activities the kids were involved in. He enjoyed boating and fishing at Pickwick and golfing at Indian Bayou in Destin. Christmas was his favorite holiday and he made it special for everyone. The family would like to say thank you to his caregiver, Annette Stickland for her devoted service. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m., Monday, September 19 and funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 20 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
