Carolyn, Steve, Kimbrough & Chris …Words cannot begin to express my sorrow in your loss. Some of the fondest memories I shall hold dear are sitting in the den with Jim discussing his U-2 flights over the Soviet Union during the Cold War. At one time, Jim laughed and said he was a “back seater” (meaning that his primary job was that of a REO – Radar Equipment Officer looking for enemy missile launches) and since the “back seater” sat just a few inches higher than the primary (front seat) pilot, he (Jim) would be the one who would have actually set the altitude record, if indeed, a new one had been set.Jim was never short on conversation he had a wide repertoire of subject matter from flying to Sherlock Holmes – very well versed on each. Jim was a very pensive man and as wise as a sage who could hold anyone spellbound with interesting conversation for hours leaving one wanting more. I was honored to be in his presence as each time was an invaluable lesson in truth and integrity. Thank you for bestowing your knowledge and friendship upon me.Fly West dear Jim, we all shall miss you immensely…God Bless.Chuck Degan
