James Monroe Elliott's Obituary
James Monroe Elliott, age 90, died January 24, 2017. He was born December 31, 1926 in Pawnee, TX. He was a life-long member of the Church of Christ, serving as a preacher, leader, and elder in Florence, AL, Monmouth County, NJ, and Memphis, TN. He was an educator, graduating from Freed Hardeman College in 1946, Harding College in 1949, Columbia University in 1959, and earned a Doctorate of Education from Rutgers University in 1973. Jim is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gloria; a daughter Debra (Tim), and a son, Don (Julia). Jim and Gloria were blessed with six grandchildren: Steven, Daniel, and David Baird; and Paige, Jeremy, and Laura Jo Elliott, and two great-grandsons. The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 28 from 10:30 am until service time at 11:30 am at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Searcy AR Children’s Home, Kirby Pines Community, or a charity of choice.“Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall.”
