James Edward Deupree Jr.'s Obituary
James Edward Deupree, Jr., 95, of Olive Branch, Mississippi, formerly of Memphis, Tennessee passed away on February 8, 2021 at Culpepper Place of Olive Branch. Ed was born September 30, 1925 in Memphis, Tennessee to James Edward Deupree, Sr. (Pop) and Elizabeth Cleage Deupree (Sissy), also of Memphis.
He is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Anne Deupree Burke (Wayne) of Millen, Georgia; two sons, James Edward Deupree, III (Mimi) of Dunwoody, Georgia and William Earl Deupree (Tracey) of Bryan, Texas; a sister, Betty Deupree Joplin, of Memphis, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Brandon Burke, Jenee' Burke, William Deupree (Alison), Chris Deupree, Jared Deupree (Jenna), Braden Deupree, and Sam Deupree; and one great grandchild.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Barbara Jeanne Hassler Deupree, his sister Mary Wayne Jayroe and his brother, John Deupree.
Ed attended Central High School in Memphis, graduating in 1943, and also attended Memphis State College (now University of Memphis). He retired from Lockheed-Martin in Marietta, Georgia. Ed proudly served in the US Army Air Corp in the 381st Bomb Group stationed in Ridgefield, England in World War II as a B17 radio operator/gunner and later served in the Korean War. He loved his family and the country he fought for. You could always see Ed in one of his World War II hats.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 1:00 pm with a graveside service following at 2:00 pm for family members and close friends at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN, 38119.
