James Weed Bower's Obituary
James Weed Bower, 78, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Methodist University Hospital. Born October 12, 1931 in Lenoir, NC, Jim spent most of his childhood in Lenoir and Blowing Rock, NC. After graduating high school, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Jim served in the United States Navy after his college years. He went into the furniture business after his time in the Navy, following in line of his family’s business. He was a successful Manufacturers Representative for countless furniture lines over the years, retiring only 10 years ago. Anyone who knows Jim knows that he also was an excellent golfer and was often found on Saturday mornings teeing off at Whitehaven Country Club for many years. He made many life long friends there and spoke fondly of those years up until his death. He was also an avid duck hunter and often said that nothing compared to a “blue bird day of duck hunting”. Jim leaves behind his “bride”, Bettie, or as he affectionately called her “Skinner”. They were married for 52 years. He also leaves behind his two daughters, Elizabeth Bower and Carol Bower Stevens, as well as one granddaughter, Jessie Bower; and four grandsons, Tyler Austin, Charlie Parks, Adam Stevens and Justin Stevens. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 5, 2009 at Christ The King Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be private. The family requests that memorials be sent to Methodist Alliance Hospice.
