James Bendall's Obituary
James William “Bill” Bendall was born on August 20, 1931 and passed away on October 13, 2015. Bill’s parents were Burnie Houston Bendall, Sr. and Ruth Gertrude Painter Bendall of Sheffield, Alabama. Bill graduated from Sheffield High School and was a proud member of the 40’s SHS Reunion group. He attended their last gathering in early August. He was a graduate of Florence State (now Univ. of North Alabama). He proudly served two years in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. His business career included positions in purchasing with Reynolds Aluminum, Firestone Rubber Company and culminated as Purchasing Manager at Kellogg Company. During his career he was active in the National Purchasing Association and participated in the Minority Purchasing Council. Memphis Rotary Club was an important part of his life. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and maintained perfect attendance for over 30 years. He was also an active member of Second Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Barbara Roberts Bendall, four siblings and their spouses and his great granddaughter Margaret Anne (Mae) Eastman. He leaves his wife of 45 years, Ann Fuller Bendall, his sons Robert Houston Bendall, Sr. (Ruth Anne) and William Scott Bendall, (Katie), his grandchildren Karen Bendall Eastman (George Perry Eastman IV) and Robert Houston Bendall, Jr. (Lauren) as well as his great grandson G. Perry Eastman V. The family wishes to thank the staff of Stern Cardiovascular Foundation, especially Dr. David Holloway, Dr. Eric Johnson, Elissa Fine and Patty Hatcher, R.N. as well as the staff of Memphis Lung Physicians, especially Dr. Michael Wilons. Visitation will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery Saturday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. The service will be at Memorial Park on Sunday at 2:30 pm. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 4680 Walnut Grove, Memphis, TN 38117, American Heart Association or American Lung Association.
