James D. Appling's Obituary
James D. Appling, 89, of Memphis, passed away on November 16, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorma Appling of 60 years. He leaves behind his son, Bill Appling of Memphis, one daughter, Melanie Drenning and her husband David of Huntsville, AL, three grandchildren, Lanie, Paul and Wes Drenning, cousins, Ruth Ann Smith of Hot Springs, AR, James Smith of Little Rock, AR and Jerry Smith of Little Rock, AR, and many close friends and other relatives.He and his wife Dorma were “life members” of Colonial Baptist for over 50 years. James was a decorated veteran of the Korean War.Jim and Dorma were long term basketball and football season ticket holders of Tiger games, particularly the magic days at Crump Stadium and the Mid-South Coliseum. Jim played and lettered in football in both high school and college.The Family would particularly like to thank for the love and care of “Comfort Keepers” and Compassus Hospice.The family will receive friends from 10am to 11am, Tuesday, November 20 with the service following immediately at 11am at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
