Jacquelin Gunther's Obituary
Surrounded by her loving family, on February 12, 2024, Jacquelin Gunther (89) passed into
the loving arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior as well as her husband, John Gunther,
who has been waiting nine years to dance with his bride again.
Jacquelin “Jackie” Gunther was born February 6, 1935 in Louisville, KY and raised in Seymour, IN
until she moved to Chicago IL. Preceded in death by: mother Myrtle Lucille Shepherd Crum, father
Andrew Jackson Crum, and husband John Phillip Gunther.
She is survived by children: Jeffrey P. Gunther (Joan), James C. Gunther (Dana), Julie K. Gunther
Sparrow (Michael), and foster son Brian S. Jurgens; grandchildren: Jessica Gunther, Steve Wilson
(Jessica) and Jack Wilson (Jim Bosworth), Caelin and Autumn Gunther; Taylor Sparrow Mcknatt
(Hunter), Morgan, Aubrie and Lauren Sparrow; great grandsons Aaron and Christian Wilson.
She met her husband John Gunther while roller skating at North Shore Baptist Church (NSBC).
There they raised their family and were active members of NSBC for fifty-seven years until moving to
Collierville, TN to help and be near their daughter and her family. Jackie and John immediately became
active members of Collierville Christian Church and were always doing the Lord’s work. A few years
later they found their last home at Kirby Pines LifeCare Community in Memphis. They made many
friends, and Jackie joined several clubs with the highlight of her day being lunch with her ladies.
Family was very important to Jackie. She loved every moment spent with her children and
grandchildren. As an only child she always wished for siblings almost her whole life. Shortly after her
mom died in 1997, Jackie’s wish came true. She got a call from someone stating she was her sister, the
daughter of her father, Jack. God gave her twenty-seven years to establish relationships with her newfound brothers and sisters and a chance to see her dad before he died. Her ten half siblings are: * Richard
W. Heavenridge ,* Ralph W. Crum, * Martha Jo Crum, Charles Edward Crum (Doris), * Robert Dean
Crum, Deloris “Jean” Williams, Frederick “Michael” Crum, Lois Shirley Hester, * Andrew Jackson Crum
Jr., and Alice “June” Scherb.
- preceded in death
A private memorial service was held February 15th, 2024 at Kirby Pines for the residents and family,
followed by a reception and service hosted at Collierville Christian Church. There will be a Celebration of
Life held in Chicago at North Shore Baptist Church on June 5, 2024 at 2:00 pm.
Jackie was a consistent loving presence in all of our lives and she will be greatly missed. These last
few years she would say: “I have had a long good life and only God knows the number of my days. I
would love to spend more time with my family here but I miss John everyday.” God did know. She taught
us our faith in Christ and that this is not our forever home.
Mom we will miss you, but know that we have peace that you are no longer in pain and you are HOME
with your Heavenly Father, loving husband, family and friends. We will see you again
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kirby Pines LifeCare Community or or Collierville Christian Church or North Shore Baptist Church
