Jackie Baker Smith's Obituary
Jackie Baker Smith, 90, resident of Germantown, passed away on Saturday, May 26th, 2018 with her family by her side. Growing up in Dyersburg, TN during the Depression, she and her sisters (Ruth and Jean) formed, “The Baker Sisters” singing trio bringing music to a dark time. She was an accomplished gardener with a passion for roses, a devoted mother and military wife. She had a colorful personality. Always ready for a joke and kept her family entertained with many signature phrases. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Fred D. Smith. Jackie is survived by her children, Donna Hopkins (Les) of Bolivar, MO., Susan Smith of Germantown, Fred Smith, Jr. (Glenda) of Memphis and Cindy McGhee (Mike) of Collierville; grandchildren, Randy, Jason and Craig Moody, Alison Smith and Jake McGhee; great-grandchildren, Haydn, Julian, Liam and Alayna. Her feisty spirit and quirky sense of humor will be missed every day. Her family is sure she would be using one of her signature phrases now “Here’s to it and to it again. If you get to it and can’t do it, leave me to it. I’ll do it. I’m used to it.” The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, June 6 from 10am until the Celebration of Life Service at 11am at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis. The burial will follow at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the charity of the donor’s choice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Church Health Center.
