Jack Craig Russell's Obituary
Jack Craig Russell, Jr., 89, passed away April 9, 2015. He was born November 16, 1925 in Memphis, TN to Mary Sue and Jack C. Russell, Sr. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an airplane gunner and Morse code operator. He sent the message to all the world announcing the end of the war. He attended Rhodes College and the University of Tennessee, and graduated from the University of Memphis, where he was the captain of the university’s first golf team. Following college, he was an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Afterwards, he started Russell Dental Laboratory with his father and brother, retiring 50 years later. He was a founding member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marian Russell; children, Lea Ann Kelley, Craig Russell (Suzanne), and Dan Russell; grandchildren, David and Ashlea Kelley, and J.C., Jake, Josh, Joseph, Madison, and Anna Russell. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Russell. Visitation will be 4:30-6:00 p.m., Sunday, April 12 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 13 at Good Shepherd UMC. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Good Shepherd UMC, 6050 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN 38134. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
