Jack Henry Ray's Obituary
Jack Henry Ray, 93, formerly of Germantown, TN, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023. He was born February 16, 1930 in Houston, MS.
He worked from 1946-1948 in his cousin’s general merchandise store in the morning before school, and Saturday for 12 hours a day. He enjoyed playing football at Houston Mississippi High School. He then served two years in the US Navy and worked as an aircraft electrician.
Mr. Ray attended night classes for ten years at Memphis State University obtaining his bachelor’s degree while he worked full time with Memphis Light, Gas, and Water. He retired from MLG&W in 1982 after 36 years, four months and 25 days.
Mr. Ray was an active volunteer at Methodist North Hospital volunteering two days a week for over 17 years a total of 17,000 hours, He was also a volunteer chaplain at Whiteville TN, CCA Prison for three years. Mr. Ray was a Sunday school teacher for over 50 years. Bro. Jack, as he was known, taught weekly bible study until two months of his passing. Truly a servant of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He will be missed by all that knew him.
He was preceded in death by his two wives. Mrs. Ruth Ray passed away in 1994 and Mrs. Bernice Baker Ray in 2019, one brother, James Allie Ray, two sisters, Miriam Anita Ray Abrams and Ruth Alvin Ray McRae.
Upon marrying the second love of his life Bernice Ray, he inherited a family of three children, five grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by five nephews and one niece.
The visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the service time at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 22, 2023 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
