Dr. Jack Hoelscher's Obituary
Dr. Jack Warren Hoelscher, 80, of Memphis died on April 23, 2018. Jack was born February 24, 1938 in Memphis, TN to Nell Evelyn Cahill and Robert Julian Hoelscher. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Anne Hoelscher Meggs; and his son, Robert Julian Hoelscher, II. He leaves his wife of 48 years, Barbara Stotts Hoelscher. He also leaves his daughter, Holli Hoelscher Simon (Jonathan), and his sister, Patricia Hoelscher Holliday Craddock; his five grandchildren, Timothy (Marleigh), Michael, and Andrew Meggs; Sarah and Ann Everett Simon; and two great grandchildren, Liam and Laileigh Meggs. He also leaves several cousins, nieces and nephews. He graduated from Central High School, where he played baseball and basketball. He attended college at Southwestern (now Rhodes) and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He then attended the University of Tennessee and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1961. Jack was a Captain in the United States Army Dental Corps and served in Alaska for two years. He then returned to Memphis to open his dental practice, where he proudly served patients for 35 years. He was an active member of the American & Tennessee Dental Associations and Memphis Dental Society serving in various leadership roles. He was also appointed by the University of TN College of Dentistry to serve as an Instructor, Assistant Professor, Consultant, part of the Preceptorship Program and in several research projects. He was a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and International College of Dentists. During his extensive career, he was invited to give numerous professional lectures spanning several topics. Upon retiring, he became a consultant with Paragon Dental Practice Transitions where he assisted dentists in selling, purchasing, and merging their practices. He also volunteered his time to the Christian Mobile Dental Van, and was involved in various mission trips where he provided dental services to those in need. A true gentlemen , Jack was a man of strong integrity, faith, and morals. He loved his family and his profession deeply. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, hunting, jogging, snow skiing in Colorado, and spending time with friends, especially at Pickwick Lake. He was a member of Bellevue Baptist Church for most of his life , a member of TPC Southwind, and a former member of Chickasaw Country Club. The family will receive friends and relatives on Friday, April, 27 from 10am until the time of the service at 12pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis.
