Jack Dean Hayman's Obituary
Jack Dean Hayman, 100, of Cordova, passed away peacefully at the Memphis Jewish Home on July 1, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Gloria Sams Hayman, his parents Ralph and Axie (Haskett) Hayman, his sister Marjorie Hayman Jenkins, and his son-in-law Dr. Gregory Waddell Stanfill. He leaves behind his daughter, Jean Hayman Stanfill, his grandchildren Dr. John Gregory Stanfill (Dr. Ansley Grimes Stanfill) and Susan Hayman Stanfill, and two great-grandchildren Lily Savannah Shannon and Dylan Jeffrey Shannon. Jack was born in Norfolk, Virginia on April 19, 1918. He graduated from South Norfolk High School in 1935. He was not only president of his class, but also a member of the state championship basketball team. After graduation he served our country as a Marine. He married Gloria Jean Sams on April 29, 1946. After leaving the military, he went into business with his father and operated a local tavern for 10 years. Later, he found his true calling in sales. He became very successful selling wire rope and traveled all over the south for his occupation. He retired in Memphis in 1978. Jack and his wife Gloria were very active in the Variety Club, an organization that supports various children’s charities in the Memphis area. Because of this passion, the family requests any memorials for Mr. Hayman be sent to the Variety Club of Memphis at 5796 Shelby Oaks Suite 7R Memphis, TN 38134. Visitation will be held in the chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home on Thursday, July 5, 2018 at 2:00 pm with the funeral ceremony following at 2:30 pm.
