Irmgard Franziska Heilmann's Obituary
Irmgard Franziska Heilmann, age 88, of Memphis, Tennessee, formerly of Southaven, Mississippi, passed away peacefully with her son and daughter-in-law by her side on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Methodist Germantown Hospital in Germantown, TN.
Born on December 16, 1934 in a very small village in the Silesian region of Germany, Irmgard was the daughter of the late Robert and Franziska Kluska and younger sister to the late Walter Kluska. She often told stories of growing up in Germany during World War II, her family's struggles to survive, and how she overcame those obstacles. She and her loving husband, Rudi, immigrated from Germany to the United States with their son, Carmon, in 1960. They loved this country but also longed for the sites and sounds of their homeland and traveled often to Helen, GA and other German and Bavarian villages around the country to celebrate Oktoberfest and other seasonal festivals.
Irmgard was a passionate gardener known for having the most beautiful flower beds in her neighborhood. Throughout the years, she and her husband, Rudi, also harvested fruit and vegetable gardens. Her lifelong love for gardening kept her tending her flower beds and mowing her own lawn until she was 87 years old.
Irmgard was one of a kind, and those who knew her often insisted that you will never meet another person like her. She was a strong-willed, hard-working, lively spirit and a steadfast believer in Christ. She was baptized and professed her belief at First Southern Baptist Church in Byhalia, Mississippi surrounded by her family and friends. How joyful we are that she is now reunited with Christ and those she loved that have gone before her and awaited her arrival.
Irmgard was a beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother ("Ome"), and friend. She leaves behind her son, Carmon Heilmann and daughter-in-law, Amy, her granddaughters Alexandria Littlejohn (Matt) and Abbey Heilmann, and her grandson, Rudi Heilmann, along with her brother’s family in Germany and many loving friends and extended family that will miss her terribly. Memories of her will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew her.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2023 at 11am with a visitation at 10am at Memorial Park Funeral Home in the Fireside Chapel followed by a short graveside ceremony at Memorial Park South Woods.
The family has entrusted his arrangements to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue,
Memphis, Tennessee 38119.
