Irmagene Hall's Obituary
Irmagene Anthony Hall, 94, is dancing with the angels and her beloved husband, Fred M. Hall. After a 14 year battle with thyroid cancer, she passed away peacefully at home in Olive Branch, MS on June 15, 2019 surrounded by family.Irmagene was born on July 5, 1924, the second child of seven children born to William and Leola (Snider) Anthony in Water Valley, Mississippi. She graduated from Water Valley High School in 1942. Irmagene was a point guard on the varsity girls basketball team and ran relay on the girls track team. That same year, she and the love of her life and jitterbug dance partner, Fred M. Hall, eloped. They settled in Memphis and raised their three children. Shortly after Irmagene married, her husband was drafted into the Army resulting in a 3 1/2 year separation. Irmagene supported the war effort by working at National Biscuit Company in Memphis. After the war ended, Irmagene and Fred made their home in Whitehaven. Always the independent woman and somewhat ahead of her time, with the love and encouragement of her husband, Irmagene chose to work outside the home. She was a purchasing agent for 22 years, first working at Graber & Sons (Gray Mercantile), W.M. Barr & Co. and then retiring from Riviana Rice Co. in 1979.Irmagene loved life and never met a stranger. She had a wicked sense of humor right up to the end making everyone laugh and feel comfortable regardless of the circumstances. She was a news junkie and loyal Memphis Tigers basketball fan. She was a wonderful cook and loved preparing meals for her family. Always the athlete, she took up mall walking and aerobics class. She loved reading, genealogy, and spending time with her grandchildren. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her family. An avid collector, she had many momentos from her travels. She was a long time member of Goodman Oaks Church of Christ and taught Sunday school for 10 years.She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Fred M. Hall. She is survived by her three children, Carolyn Elig of Collierville, TN; Melinda Ireland of El Cajon, CA and Edward Hall of Olive Branch, MS; seven grandchildren: Richard (Lora) Perkins of Memphis; Cheryl Ann Perkins of Olive Branch, MS; Kenneth Perkins of Atlanta, GA; Rob Randall of El Cajon, CA; Alan (Cassandra) Randall of Santee, CA; Michelle (Adam) Johnson of Brandon, MS and Whitney (Cory) Brassfield of Hernando, MS; eleven great-grandchildren: Chloe Perkins of Memphis, TN; Kyle Perkins of Atlanta; GA; Rowan (Luke Parrish) Perkins of Memphis, TN; Ryan Perkins of Rock Hill, SC; Sean Randall of El Cajon, CA; Esme Perkins of Memphis, TN; Aaron Perkins of Neptune Beach, FL; Ava, Autumn and Adalyn Johnson of Brandon, MS and Miller Perkins of Atlanta, GA. She was predeceased by her parents and 5 siblings, brothers: J.B., Roy, Earl and Curtis Anthony and her sister, Ann Bowles. She is also survived by one sister, Jane Wright of Water Valley, MS.The family would like to express their appreciation to the nurses and staff at Methodist Healthcare Hospice.The family will receive friends on Friday, June 21 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. A private family entombment will be held after the service celebrating her Life.
