Irene Bain Hix's Obituary
Irene Bain Hix passed away on June 23, 2013. She was 95, born on March 22, 1918 in Camden, TN. and was the second of five children born to Pauline and Dr. Charles J. Bain. A strong believer in education, she made her way after high school to Memphis State University to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher. In 1942, she was a teacher and married Charles Richard (Dick) Hix. After their two children were born, Irene helped her husband complete his degree in chemistry at Memphis State. She taught elementary school throughout Memphis, notably East Elementary and Willow Oaks. She was a Baptist, reading her Bible every day and was a Sunday School teacher at Poplar Ave. Baptist and later at Audubon Park Baptist. Irene was filled with kindness and patience for all those she met and was a soft-spoken, elegant Southern lady. She instilled in others her love of learning and Christianity. Irene was greatly admired by her family, especially for her sewing and good cooking. She was predeceased in 1987 by her husband of 45 years, Dick Hix. Her two children survive her: Richard Bain Hix (Janet) of Colleyville, TX and Glynda Hix Klinger (Ronald) of Bartlett, TN. Her seven grandchildren are William Hix of Washington, DC, Richard Lee Hix of Colleyville, TX and Brian Hix of OR.; Sarah Klinger Osborne (Scott) of Bartlett, Richard Klinger of Montgomery, AL, Andrew Klinger of Birmingham, AL, and Rachel Klinger of Bartlett. Her two great-grandchildren are Isabella Irene and Alexander Osborne of Bartlett. She also leaves her loving sister, Evelyn Chapman of Trenton, TN, a devoted cousin, Marcelle Farrow of Germanton, TN and a host of relatives and friends. Her family is appreciative of the church family, friends, and caretakers who were devoted to Irene. Funeral and burial are on Friday, June 28, 2013 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN with Visitation at 1:30 pm and Services at 2:30 pm. Flowers are welcome and memorials may be made to Audubon Park Baptist Church, 4060 Park Ave., Memphis, TN 38111.
