Inga Boosalis' Obituary
Inga Swanson Boosalis, 95, born June 5, 1921 in Falkenberg, Sweden fell asleep in the Lord peacefully at home on August 2, 2016. Proceeded in death by her loving husband, Jim, her son John, and her parents, Carl and Annie Swanson. She is survived by her remaining children Joanne Conway, Julie Zdancewicz (Bill), James Boosalis (Denise), Janet Boosalis and many extended family members. Her true joys were her grandchildren Billy, Jake, Jana and Anne Keaton. In 1924, at four years old, Inga came through Ellis Island with her parents to seek the American Dream in Chicago, IL. Through hard work, they quickly became an integral part of Chicago’s vibrant Swedish community. While in middle school, Inga met the love of her life and future husband, Jim Boosalis, at Chicago’s Belmont Harbor. Their 71year marriage commenced when they eloped just prior to World War II. After the war, they settled in Glenview IL where Inga, the ultimate wife and mother, raised their five baby boomer children. In 1971, Jim and Inga’s love story continued in Memphis, TN. The Boosalis Family was immediately welcomed by the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church largely due to Inga’s infectious personality, warm heart and generosity. She was an avid volunteer of her beloved church. She cherished being a member of the women’s Philoptochos Society and enjoyed cooking for the Greek Festival. Inga’s zest for life brought exuberance to her bowling, swimming, card, and couple’s supper group. She will be held dear in the hearts of her many friends. Her greatest purpose and joy in life came from being a devoted wife to her husband and loving mother to her family. Her children will deeply miss her selfless, unconditional love and support. Inga leaves us to join her husband just in time to celebrate their 75th Wedding Anniversary. Her children would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Inga’s compassionate caregivers particularly to her special friend, Sandra Davis. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 7th, 5-8 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Funeral service will be on Monday, August 8th, 10 a.m. at The Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 573 N. Highland. The family requests that memorials be sent to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church or to the charity of their choice. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119 901-767-8930, “Celebrating Life…..Behind the Stone Wall”.
