Ima Dee Goad McNeil's Obituary
IMA DEE GOAD McNEIL, 96, of Memphis, died on Wednesday, January 21, 2009.Visitation will be Sunday, January 25th, 2-4 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home.Service will be 11: 30 a.m. Monday, January 26th at Memorial Park, with burial at 1:30 pm in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.She was born in Adamsville, TN, on March 30, 1912, to Frank M. and Icie Barlow Goad, and was reared in Adamsville. She graduated from West Tennessee State Teachers’ College (U of M) and taught school in McNairy County, TN. She married in 1943, and spent the next decades rearing her children as Christians, as the family moved following husband, Curlan’s career in the Air Force. She graduated from Sonoma State College in 1965 and taught elementary school in California. She taught in Memphis at Hawkins Mill Elementary 1967-70, and Hanley 1970-75. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and Pearl Hooper Garden Club. She volunteered at Germantown Hospital and Willow Oaks Elementary School. Mrs. McNeil leaves four children, Martha (Malvin) Howe of Royal, AR, Robert (Mary Lou) McNeil of John Day, OR, Richard (Margaret) McNeil of Germantown, and Jane McNeil of Memphis; three siblings, Gertrude Counts of Corinth, MS, Robert Goad of Selmer, TN, and Samuel Goad of Plymouth, MN; five grandchildren, Edward and Michael Howe, Charles and Sarah McNeil, and Christopher McNeil; and four great-grandchildren.
