Mr. Hy Van Nguyen's Obituary
Hy Van Nguyen, age 77, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Hao Thi Nguyen. He is survived by their 4 children, Thao Nguyen Shang (Shawn) of Orlando, Florida; MiMi Nguyen-Havens (Kevin) of Germantown, Tennessee; Langhi Nguyen Giep (Hoang) of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and Thi Nguyen (Michelle) of Fullerton, California. He also leaves 7 grandchildren, Lauren Shang, Max Havens, Anderson Giep, Brooklynn Giep, Beckham Giep, Sydney Nguyen and Charlotte Nguyen. Hy Van was born in Da Nang City, Vietnam in 1940. He was a commander in the South Vietnamese Navy and emigrated to the United States after the fall of Saigon in 1975. He worked several jobs to support his family while attending college and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Memphis State University in 1988. After graduation, Hy Van worked as an engineer in the healthcare field until he retired in 2006. Hy Van was very active in the Vietnamese community and was well respected for his commitment to his family and friends. A traditional Vietnamese prayer service will be held 3-5 p.m. and visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 11. Thursday, April 12, visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. 11 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. (Vietnamese Prayer Service) 11:30 a.m. funeral service and internment to immediately follow, all at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery.Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN 38119 (901) 767-8930. “Celebrating Life… Behind the Stone Wall”.
