Hugh Webb's Obituary
Hugh Edward Webb of Memphis passed away peacefully at home, at the age of 96, on Sunday November 6, 2016. He was a longtime and devoted parishioner of Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, active in many ministries of the parish. He also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. Hugh served in the US Army and fought in the South Pacific in World War II. Upon returning to the states, he began working for Buckeye in Memphis, where he retired after 44 years. Hugh was born in Middleton, Tennessee, on September 24, 1920 of Luther and Clara Pearl Webb. Hugh was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Mary Evelyn Mitchell. He is survived by his son John Edward Webb (Ginny) and daughter Sandra Kathryn Webb Crook (Jerry). He is also survived by grandchildren John Joseph Baker IV (Kathryn) and Patrick Hugh (Aimee) Baker and Jonathan Vandiver Webb and Mary Kathleen Webb Wilson (Matt), as well as his great grandchildren Lillian Nell, Ainsley Day, Ethan Anderson, and Madeline Evelyn Baker, and Owen Webb and Thomas Edward Wilson. He is also survived by brothers JT (Margaret), RL (Betty), Bobby (Carolyn), and Cecil (Grace), and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hugh was predeceased by brothers Montrel and Herman and sisters Juanita Farris, Nila Farris, and Mary Helen Ricossa. Following a private burial service at Elmwood Cemetery, there will be a memorial service in St. Edwards Chapel at Trezevant Manor, 177 N Highland Street at 12:00PM on Saturday, November 12 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be sent to the Trezevant Foundation or Grace-St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
