Hugh Walton Morris III's Obituary
Hugh Walton Morris, III, of Counce, TN passed away on February 16, 2025 at the age of 84. Walton was born April 16, 1940 in Jonesboro, AR to Hugh Walton Morris Jr. & Edna Mai Turnage and grew up in Memphis, TN. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Thomas Morris and is survived by his brother Ronald Turnage Morris of Eads, TN, nephews: Brian Michael Morris of Springfield MO, William Sherman Morris of Peachtree, GA, Clint Morgan Morris of Whiteville, TN and niece, Adrienne Morris McElhaney of Collierville, TN and two great nephews.
Walton graduated from Messick High School in 1958 and the University of Tennessee in 1963 with a mechanical engineering degree from the Tickle College of Engineering where he participated in the co-operative engineering program. His working career as an engineer included International Harvester in Memphis, Kinematics in Counce and TOOLCRAFT LTD. in Corinth, MS along with doing independent consulting and engineering work.
Walton lived in the Pickwick Lake area for 60 years and had a passion for cars and trucks which he learned growing up from his older cousins. People who met him for the first time were impressed with all his knowledge on various types of automobiles and their history. He was very talented that he could do most of the work on his cars, including but not limited to mechanical, painting, upholstery and sheet metal body work. His late mother taught him how to sew for upholstery work when he was only a teenager. At the time of his passing, he had been restoring a 1950 Chevrolet Sedan Delivery he obtained in 2018.
His car collection varied over the years and included mostly GM with a few Fords. Walton attended car shows over the years and won many awards with some of his automobiles. His favorite ones to show were his 1932 Ford Model B bought in 1965 for $600 and his rare 1958 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham with a unique stainless-steel roof.
Walton will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
No services are planned but a celebration of Walton’s life will be scheduled later. In lieu of flowers, please plan on supporting your favorite charity.
