Howard Parris' Obituary
Howard Pullium Parris, Jr. of Colliverville, Tennessee passed away on September 10, 2016. He was born on December 24, 1931 to Howard P. Parris, Sr. and Helen A. Gardner, both of whom preceded him in death. After graduation from Messick High School, he began work at Memphis Furniture where he would later rise to become Vice President of the company before retiring in 1985. After retirement, he continued his hobby of golfing, and was a member of Bevico and Wyndyke Golf Clubs. Later, he became an avid hold’em poker player, where he competed in tournaments and made many life-long friends. Though not actively involved as a church member, he had a love for God, prayed often, and was generous in all aspects of his life. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Billy Young Parris; a sister, Joan P. Miller of Olive Branch, MS; two sons and a daughter: Howard Michael of Apopka FL, Dennis Paul of Blytheville, AR, and Patricia Parris Haley (Tim) of Woodburn, Oregon. He was also a loving step-father to Tommy Eugene Kent and Louis Lee Kent, both of whom preceded him in death. He leaves behind a legacy of two grandchildren from his children, Justin Parris and Tory Anderson (Brian), two great-grandchildren and two additional grandchildren, Olivia Lee Lawrence and Samantha Lee Liles. He loved all of his family deeply. Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 14 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the charity of your choice. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Celebrating Life Behind the Stone Wall”.
