Dr. Howard S. Misner's Obituary
Dr. Howard Misner of Memphis passed away peacefully at his Florida residence on October 12 with his daughter Lynn by his side. He left this earthly world to join his beloved wife, Sara, in heaven. Together they had four children: Ellis Misner (deceased) of Montana (Ginny), Lynn Misner of Florida and Chattanooga, Janet Misner of Memphis, and Mark Misner of Georgia.
Howard was the quintessential renaissance man. From racing his own home-built cars as a teenager on Daytona Beach, to flying aerobatic maneuvers in his Pitts Special biplane - the thrill of adventure was never lost on him. He personally tied the perfect fly to catch each and every species of fish, and loaded all of his own ammunition for hunting everything from duck and deer to big game animals in Africa - nothing was beyond his mastery or expertise. Howard often made and spliced his own safari movies which he loved showing to everyone from school kids to church groups and clubs, and pretty much whoever would listen! He and Sara traveled the world together exploring many wonderous places - his zest for learning was boundless. Howard was a student of life, and he loved sharing his knowledge with others. As a doctor of Maxillofacial Surgery, he took care of many patients while in private practice; and then taught his precision skills to years of dental students at UT Memphis where he retired as professor emeritus.
Graveside Service for Dr. Misner will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at 11:00am at Memorial Park Cemetery.
One of the most important things that Howard ever shared during his lifetime was in his final months when he told his daughter Lynn, "I thank Jesus for my life, and l've had a very good life".
..... a life well lived indeed!
