Horace "POP" Glenn Phelan's Obituary
HORACE “Pop” GLENN PHELANOn Saturday, April 21, 2018, the Lord called home his faithful servant, Horace “Pop” Glenn Phelan. Mr. Phelan was a resident in the senior living community, Heritage at Irene Woods.Mr. Phelan was born on January 3, 1919, in Trenton, Tennessee and grew up in Jackson, Tennessee. Following graduation from Jackson High School, he served three years (Dec. ’42-Nov. ’45) in the U.S. Army as a Combat Infantryman Radio Operator T4 in the European theatre during WWII. He was recipient of two Bronze Star Medals and the WWII Victory Medal. For fourteen years, he managed grocery stores for A&P in Trenton, Paris and Memphis. For 29 years, he worked for Malone and Hyde and in 1984 he retired as Director of Purchasing.He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace Glenn Phelan, Sr. and Mary Annie Luckey Phelan, his sister, Jane Phelan Myatt and his wife, Dorcas “Dody” French Everett Phelan. He was a loving step-father to Alan Everett (Margaret) of Memphis, Tn.; Linda Kay Everett (Mike Albright) of Collierville, Tn and Jack Neely Everett, Jr. (Azza) of Dallas, Tx and Cairo, Egypt.He was a devoted uncle to Dr. Sam Myatt (Dr. Dottie), Molly Myatt Gardner (Mike) of Jackson, Tennessee. He was loved and admired by 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 1 great nephew, 5 great nieces and 18 great-great nephews and nieces.He was a long time member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Memphis, TN.Visitation will be at Memorial Park Mausoleum Rotunda, 5668 Poplar at 240, Memphis, Tn Friday, April 27, 2018, from 1:30pm to 2:30 pm followed by a Celebration of life at 2:30pm.Family Requests any memorials be made to donor’s choice.
