Hillary Meeks' Obituary
Hillary B. (Dutch) Meeks, of Bartlett, passed away at St. Francis Hospital of Bartlett on the night of the 6th of May from complications due to cancer. He was 82 years old. He leaves his beloved wife of 52 years, Sylvia, and a brand new Dachshund puppy named Little Sue. Dutch had a long and rewarding military career. He served a total of 37 years, first with the U.S. Army in Alaska during the Korean War, and then with the 164th Airlift Wing, Memphis, Tennessee Air National Guard, where he was the first Base Civil Engineer. He helped form the Air National Guard Civil Engineer’s Association, and he became a president of that organization. With other Air National Guard Civil Engineer’s in the mid 60’s, Dutch was a pioneer and co-developer of the Prime BEEF (Base Engineer’s Emergency Forces) concept which demonstrated that Air National Guard personnel could deploy on short notice anywhere in the world and accomplish an emergency mission. Dutch was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel, and he became the Base Deputy Commander for Logistics. He also served on the Tennessee Headquarters Staff for a 2 year period. The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 am on Monday, the 10th of May, at Memorial Park Funeral Home with services to follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorial donations be sent to the charity of the donor’s choice.
