Hilda Lancaster Campbell's Obituary
Hilda Lancaster Campbell Born to Holland and Mary Lancaster on November 21, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia, and a resident of Memphis and member of Mullins United Methodist for over 60 years. Hilda went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ at the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House on February 25, 2016. She is preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Clifton Campbell; two sisters, Charley Mabel Wilkie and Betty Roslyn Duke; two grandchildren, James William “Will” Sexton and Merideth O’Neal Sexton. She is survived by her son, John Clifton Campbell, Sr. (Gloria); two grandsons, John Clifton Campbell, Jr. and Alexander Huey Campbell; her daughter, Mary Willette Campbell, (Jim); two great granddaughters, Olivia Grace Sexton and Makenzi Alexis Sexton; and granddaughter-in-law, Melissa Sexton. During World War II she worked at the U.S. Third Army Head Quarters in Atlanta, Georgia as a Woman’s Army Corp Recruiter. There she met her husband Bill who was stationed there at the time. Hilda retired from the Shelby County Board of Education after 36 years of service. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorials be made to the Baptist Reynolds Hospice House and the Kemmons Wilson Family Center for Good Grief. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m., Thursday, March 3 at Mullins United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends beginning at 2 p.m. Hilda will be cremated and returned to Atlanta to be laid to rest next to her husband at a later date. A special thanks to all of the Hospice Caregivers who were so kind and loving to her during her final journey of life.
