Herris "Mack" McIlwain's Obituary
Herris “Mack” McIlwain, 101, of Germantown, TN, passed away February 5, 2013. He was a true southern gentleman and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was born and raised in Starkville, MS and moved to Memphis at 20 years of age. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1972, after 37 years of service. He was an avid gardener, loved fishing and photography, and was a member of the Rose Society. He was very active and was a member of his local athletic center well into his nineties. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 79 years, Hazel, two sisters, Virginia and Kate, and one brother, Billy. He is survived by his son, Don McIlwain and daughter, Linda McIlwain Ulrich, seven grandchildren, Jay, Chris, Chad and Todd Adkins, Barry and Erick McIlwain, and Pam Lanfear. He had eight great-grandchildren. Such a remarkable man, he will be missed by all. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am until service time at 11:30 am, Friday, February 8, 2013 both at Memorial Park Funeral Home-Memphis with the interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
