Hermie Duncan's Obituary
Hermie Henry Duncan, 96, widow of Marlin T. Duncan, left her adoring earthly family to join her Lord and her loved ones in Heaven on August 18, 2016. Her time here was spent caring for family and friends and preparing favorite dishes like chocolate pies, coconut cakes, lemon meringue desserts and fried peach pies. She also loved doing special holiday meals. Her other passion was her work. Some of her happiest years, about which she loved reminiscing, were spent at the now closed Firestone Tire and Rubber Factory, where she served for 47 years and was affectionately known as “Roadrunner” because of her speed and efficiency on the job. She attended Underwood Methodist Church until it closed and then attended St. Louis Catholic Church with her daughter and son in law Emily and Lance Forsdick. She maintained a lifelong membership in rural Wallerville Baptist Church near New Albany, MS, where her father and mother, George and Lottie Henry, donated the land for the original church and cemetery where she was a small child; they attended Sunday services there in a horse drawn buggy. She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter, Dr. Emily Mathis Forsdick (Lance), her grandchildren Gary Lawrence (Kathy) of Dallas, TX; Michelle Griggs (Joseph); and her two great grandchildren Halle Griggs and Greyson Lawrence. She also leaves her dear friend and daily visitor Shirley Senko, her sweet caregivers Marilyn Douglas and Helen Ross, and her beloved physician of many years, Dr. Hugh Overstreet and his devoted staff. She will also be missed by the many friends of her daughter at Christian Brothers University and granddaughter at St. Agnes Academy with whom she frequently socialized over many years. To her delight most of them regarded her as “one of the girls” and loved her dearly. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the service time 2:30 p.m. Saturday, August 20, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family requests that any donations be made to Christian Brothers University, St. Agnes Academy or a charity of the donor’s choice.
