I was fortunate to meet and play a set with Dr. Green. in 2015 my wife and I went to Georgia to see our son "turn blue" in the infantry at Fort Benning Georgia. On the way back home there were several Blues places I wanted to visit. Beale street was one of them. We settled into a blues jam and after the first set I talked to the band and I got to jam with them on keys on the next set. All the while Dr. Green was a part of this. Afterwards, we sat at a table with Herman and he gave us a CD of his original music which I cherish. I said " I will enjoy this" to which he replied "I know you will." My wife and I still quote him. After our sit down talk we went to go and the way out involved walking down a small set of stairs. Dr. Green took my wife's hand and walked her down the stairs even as we were worried about him being as old as he was . He was such a gentleman. I am forever impressed with this man's character and integrity. I was impressed with his playing on stage and his character off stage. No better thing can be said about a musician.

Herman Green was the man, I feel so lucky to have known and travelled with and performed with him so many times over the years. He was the last of the greatest; hearing his stories about his times with titanic colleagues like Coltrane & BB & Albert & Hampton & the rest of the pantheon; both in his words and in sparkling 3 dimensions from his horn, it was like a time machine, an open window where you could peer directly back into the classic 1950s & 60s in a way that recording technology could never capture and nothing can replace it. Its like the rainbow bridge evaporated and they drew the ladder up behind him.
It makes so much sense that he left on a holiday. James Brown checked out on Xmas, and its poetic that Pops picked Thanksgiving after a life like that, we're all thankful there was a Herman Green

Herman was such a Wonderful Talented Person and he was one of my first Mentors in the Music Business. He taught me so much and I will forever be so Thankful for everything he did and all the Love and Music he brought to so many here in Memphis. I am deeply sorry for your loss and I will always carry his wise words and beautiful Spirit in my Heart.

We first came to Memphis for our honeymoon from the Uk in 2016, thats when we first met Dr Herman Green....a true gent and Legend and boy did he love a vodka shot. We returned 2 more years and proudly display our pictures of us with Herman and his golden notes on our mantlepiece. God Bless, thank you for the memories and fly high
