Herbert Timothy (Tim) Little's Obituary
Herbert Timothy Little (Tim)
Herbert Timothy Little passed away after a brief illness on April 24, 2024, in Memphis, TN at the age of 82, surrounded by his children, Tim and Whitney Jo.
Tim is predeceased by his mother, Edythe Bausell Little, his father, Herbert Floyd Little, his wife of 25 years and the mother of his children, Judy Melchor Little, and his recently deceased wife, Delores Rodman.
He is survived by his children, Tim Little and Whitney Jo Little, and his grand-dog, Sammie Jo. Tim is also survived by his chosen family including Audrey and Jeffrey Eure, Alford, his life-long college buddies, his friends and co-workers from Portsmouth, and his old Fishing Team – The Virginia Beach Drummers.
Tim grew up on a farm in Smithfield, VA and earned his B.S. from Hampton-Sydney University, where he eventually met Judy Melchor from Longwood University. They got married and first settled down in Maryland where he was an Analyst for the Department of Defense at Fort Meade. They then created a home in Portsmouth, VA where they raised their two children. Tim worked for the City of Portsmouth in Data Processing Management and eventually, as the Deputy City Manager. Upon his retirement, Tim went to work with Tri-City Developers in Suffolk, Va.
Tim eventually retired for good and moved to St. Pete Beach, FL where he married Delores Rodman and they lived happily together until the Fall of 2022, when Delores passed. In the Spring of 2023, Tim moved to Memphis, TN to be near his daughter, Whitney Jo, for the tenth and final chapter of his life.
Tim had many loves in his life including reading crime novels the minute they were released, watching college football and rooting for Virginia Tech, Churchland Rotary, fishing and hunting, the Cleveland Indians, the Washington Redskins, and spending time with his kids. He was an avid collector of fishing lures and passed that on to his son. He loved good food and good drinks and never let anyone ever pick up the check. He believed in giving back to the community and donated throughout his life to causes he believed in.
Because of his love of life, his children, Tim and Whitney Jo, decided to have a private burial alongside his parents in Smithfield, VA and have a Celebration of their father’s life in a more casual setting where all friends and family are invited. The Celebration will take place on Wednesday, May 22 from 5:30pm – 8:00pm at Tim’s favorite restaurant River Stone Chophouse (in the Robie Room) 8032 Harbour View Blvd, Suffolk, VA. Please stop by and share a story, a laugh, a hug, an adult beverage…that is what Tim would have wanted.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a financial donation In Memory of Tim Little to Playhouse on the Square (www.playhouseonthesquare.org/donate) Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org) or St. Jude Children’s Hospital, (www.stjude.org).
