Henry C. Ellis, III's Obituary
Henry C. Ellis, III, was received by his heavenly father on July 6, 2018. He was born in Memphis, TN on January 19, 1921. Henry graduated from UT with an engineering degree, and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. After the war, Henry joined the family business, Wm. C. Ellis & Sons Iron Works on South Front St. as a machinist and at night he attended Jones Law School now the University of Memphis receiving his Juris Doctorate in 1949. Wm. C. Ellis & Sons Iron Works, founded in 1862, was the oldest business in Memphis to still be in its original location and owned by the original family until closing in 2016. Henry’s greatest loves were his family and going to work every day which he did until he was 95. He enjoyed boating, flying, antique cars, was a member of Rotary, Kiwanis as well as numerous other organizations. A day did not go buy that he did not graciously and humbly help others, be it a friend, an employee or a stranger. Henry was a lifelong member of Lindenwood Christian Church. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Vera Flack Ellis and his son Henry Ellis, Jr. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Neely, Della Ellis, Vera Poag and Betty Fry, his grandchildren, Mary Elaine Neely, Henry Ellis IV, Melody McKeehan, Cate Baker and great grandchild Curtsie Neely. Visitation will be Fri. July 13th, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. and the funeral services will be 10 a.m., Sat. July 14, at Memorial Park on Poplar Ave. The family requests any memorials be sent to the Church Health Center or the charity of their choice.
