Helen M. Hicks' Obituary
Helen McNeil Hicks passed quietly into the arms of her Lord on June 7, 2014 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Memphis on October 15, 1929. She was a school teacher in the Memphis City Schools for over 25 years, retiring in 1991. She was a graduate of Memphis State and an Alumni of the University of Tennessee where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She was a member of Trinity Methodist Church in mid-town Memphis for over 80 years. She was married to William R. Hicks for 51 years, a Memphis food broker who preceded her in death in 2001. She was also preceded in death by her mother and father, Jack and Bess McNeil of Memphis and her sister, Bessie Mae Tallent, and her brother-in-law Frank Tallent. She is survived by her son, Bill Hicks and his wife, Mary Ann, of the Villages, Florida. She is also survived by five grandchildren: Christy Hicks, Cathy Hicks Jaycox, and David Hicks, and Landon and Maegan Lobasso, as well as a great grandson, Max Bova. She is also survived by her neice and nephews, Trish Tallent Lobasso and Jack and Tom Tallent. Services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home with visitation from 5-7 on Monday June 16. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday the 17, 2014 at 11:30 a.m. in the Fireside Chapel at Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to the church or charity of choice.
