Helen Mavraganis' Obituary
Helen (nee Chrisafis) Mavraganis, 89, loving wife, aunt, godmother and friend to many passed away on February 12, 2018. She was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee where she was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was a lifetime member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society and active in her church community. She lived her life with integrity and had compassion for others. She was a beacon of hope and encouragement to those in need and spoke on principles of faith. Helen cherished her family and friendships, always reaching out to nurture and maintain those relationships that she held close to her heart. She had faith in God and was a true believer of the power of prayer, always making sure a candle was lit for those in need of God’s mercy.She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Gus Mavraganis, who was by her side up until the time of her death. Mrs. Mavraganis is preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Demetra Chrisafis, sisters Jennie Paxenos and Katherine Vrionis, and niece Adrienne Paxenos Dendrinos (Gus). She is also survived by her niece and several great-nieces/nephews: Katherine “Nina” Paxenos Psihogios, Tina (Glenn) Psihogios Fogel, Jennie Psihogios Johnson, Stacy Dendrinos, Jennie (Jim) Dendrinos Polson, Cynthia (Michael) Dendrinos Ferri; Lauren, Andrew, Patricia, Alex, Andrianna, Helena and Theodore.Visitation will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at 5:00 PM and Trisagion at 5:00 PM.Funeral services will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, February 19, 2018 at 11:00 AM. Internment, Memorial Park Cemetery.The family requests that donations to be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the MS Society.
