Helen Lyons' Obituary
Helen G. Lyons passed away peacefully on June 18, 2016, in Germantown, TN. Born on April 14, 1921 in Brooklyn New York, she attended public school in New York and obtained a nursing degree. She served as an RN during World War II. She met her husband, Harold Lyons at that time and was married until his passing in 1999. Harold served in the US Navy during the war. In her passing Mrs. Lyons leaves two sons, Bill and Chris. Her oldest son, Mike, died in 2015. She also leaves grandchildren Laura, Matthew, Liz, Lhessa, Lauren, and David. She also leaves two great-grandchildren. Harold and Helen moved to Memphis in 1959 at which time Dr. Lyons assumed a faculty position at Rhodes College. Harold and Helen were longtime supporters of the College and its programs. Helen periodically served as a nurse at the campus health center. Helen lived her last years at the Village of Germantown where she enjoyed playing bridge and visiting with her friends. Helen was an avid reader and enjoyed the arts, traveling and hiking. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 22 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
