Helen Bartlett Dawson's Obituary
Helen Bartlett Dawson, age 89, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019. She was born in Memphis to Eugenia Jackson Bartlett and Robert Whitney Bartlett on Jan. 30, 1930. She is pre-deceased by her husband, Robert Edward Dawson. She is survived by her daughters, Cathy Dawson and Cindy Dawson McCord (Fred), and her grandchildren, Davis, Claire, and Mary Helen; her sister-in-law, Ruth Bartlett; her nephew, David Bartlett (Susan); and her nieces, Barbara Blevins, Betty Thomerson (Tim) and Becky Blevins, all of Winston-Salem, N.C. Helen was a graduate of Central High School and Memphis State University. She received a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Education and Special Education. For many years, she served in numerous roles for Memphis City Schools; as an elementary teacher, special education teacher, and administrator. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church for many years, where she was involved in numerous activities, including her favorite — singing in the choir. Later in life, she joined Germantown United Methodist Church. Helen fully enjoyed her retirement years with her three grandchildren and enjoyed volunteering at the Woman’s Exchange of Memphis. She was also a member of the Melody Lane Garden Club. She cherished her trips to Florida with friends and family. Her favorite past time was scrapbooking. Through the years, she completed over 30 beautiful scrapbooks for her grandchildren. In addition to family, Helen dearly loved her friends in her two cherished bridge groups. Her family expresses much gratitude to everyone at the Village of Germantown, where she was a “Founding Resident” and lived there for many enjoyable and happy years. Visitation will be held at Germantown United Methodist Church, 2331 S. Germantown Road on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at 2:30 p.m., followed by the Memorial Service at 3:30 p.m. There will be a private burial. The family requests that memorials be made to The Village of Germantown Foundation, 7820 Walking Horse Circle, Germantown, TN. 38138, Germantown United Methodist Church, or to a charity of your choice.
