Helen Whittington Crain's Obituary
Helen Whittington Crain went to her heavenly home to be with Jesus on March 29, 2025, just one day shy of her 97th birthday. She was reunited in eternity with the love of her life, Carl Crain, to whom she was married for an incredible 77 years.
Helen was a devoted wife, mother, and woman of faith. She and (almost famous) Carl Crain shared a passion for gospel music, traveling the country for over 50 years, spreading the word of God through song. Anyone who knew Helen knew her love for the Lord and her unwavering commitment to sharing His word with everyone she met.
She had a natural gift for nurturing life, both in her family and her garden, with a green thumb that could make anything bloom. She especially loved her azaleas and roses. She also had a keen business sense, owning Helen Crain Realty, where she sold homes that Carl built. Later, she continued her career with Crye-Leike Realtors.
Born at home on Carnes Street in Memphis, Helen was the only girl among eight brothers--a testament to her strength and resilience. Though she was often quiet, she was a true prayer warrior, steadfast in her faith and convictions. Her family knew that, at the end of the day, it was always "her way or the highway."
We fondly think of her as a duck on water--calm and composed on the surface, but always paddling like crazy underneath.
Helen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Crain, grandson, Kendall Bolding, and daughter-in-law, Victoria Crain.
Helen leaves behind her three children, Eddy (Bud) Crain, Peggy Crain-Bolding, and Cara Crain. Grandchildren, John (Hope) Crain, Ivy (Roger) Peppers, and two great-grandchildren.
Her love, wisdom, and faith will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and cherished her.
Please join our family to celebrate her life on Friday, April 4th, for visitation at 1:30 followed by service at 2:30.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons.org or St. Jude.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119 (901) 767-8930.
