Helen Cato Jones' Obituary
Helen Cato Jones, 94, passed away in her sleep June 12 from complications of multiple strokes. Born May 30, 1922 at her family farm in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the youngest of six children who have all preceded her in death. She earned her teaching degree from Winthrop Teaching College in Rock Hill and taught there for a few years. She worked for American Airlines which sent her to Memphis where friends introduced her to her future husband, Albert M. Jones M.D. She helped him in his pediatric practice and lovingly reared three children. She was therefore active in Boy Scouts, sports, child safety, etc. and was also president of the Maternal Welfare League, the Memphis Medical Auxiliary and helped her husband start the Poison Control Center of Shelby County. After his death in 1988, she eventually moved to Trezevant Manor, then Allen-Morgan where she remained until being freed finally from a deteriorating brain and body. She is survived by her 3 children, Douglas Edgar “Clipper” Jones (Bettye), Sara Louise Jones-O’Day, and Albert Mitchell Jones, Jr. (Melanie) and three grandchildren, Harrison Jones, Hannah Proulx (Erik), and Aven Jones.The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 14 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 15 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Humboldt, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 15 in St. Edward Chapel at Trezevant Manor.Memorials should go to Maternal League of Memphis, P.O.
